Okay So I know I am way super lucky to even have a time each day that I can work out without my kids. (The Day Care that watches my kids while I work charges me 5 extra hours than I use anyways, so I decided to use that extra time to workout right after I get off work each day.) The only problem is that I have to run to the gym in my work clothes, get changed, then go to the gym. By the time i get to the gym I only have 35 min to work out before having to leave so I get to the daycare in time to get my kids. It's a lot of work cause I feel like I'm running all around and trying to get to each place as fast as possible. Anyways...So that's why I like circuit training.
Brief Explanation of Circuit Training.....
Jake teaches circuit training at Snow College so he is like my little personal trainer. He told me that this is the fastest way to loose weight and build lean muscle. The basic guideline is that in whatever kind of exercise you do, break it up in intervals:
- 2 min slow/low impact
- 2 min moderate impact
- 1 min highest impact
Also, circuit training is where you do a variety of exercises including strength training as well as cardio. This causes your body to work extra hard and fast to keep up with the change in activity. This also defeats the Plateu (spelling?) effect. when I do this kind of workout, the time flies by on the treadmill and on weights.
So since I only have 35 minutes to get my best workout in, i turn everything i do into cirucuit training. (Hence, my workout to the right of the blog). I am sore and feel like I worked my body pretty good. I read all the other workouts you guys are all doing and i am so amazed! A lot of you spend at least an hour each workout. But for those moms out there like me who only have a half hour or so to squeeze that workout in, try doing this. It's been great for me. I am loving the results so far!
I completely agree. I don't have the patience for long work-outs, so I love my 20-minute stationery bike where I go from lowest, to medium, to high, to highest impact, changing every minute. It keeps me on my toes, and I really feel like it's working my muscles. During the 18th minute, I do the highest resistance I can handle, and it's tough, but you can do anything for a minute, you know? There is only a 2-minute warm-up and 1-minute cool down in mine. Then I'm out the door and back to my baby before he needs to eat again! I noticed that some of you do similar things, like Heather. I never knew what it was called, though.
ReplyDeleteI love the cross country training or the hill training on any machine for this same reason... the intensity goes back and forth and keeps growing. When i can't make it to the gym or it's pouring outside when I need to run, I do the cardio in my tae bo dvd... just getting my heart rate up makes me feel good!
